A properly firewalled computer in combination with a good ant-virus and a
lot of common sense, is not in dire need of updates.

The facts of life are that each time something like msblaster jumps
off, we find the internet hampered by virus-driven traffic because
thousands upon thousands of machines, run by people who should
certainly know better [IOW, not just your Grand-Uncle Ben nor your
Great-Aunt Mary, who barely know how to turn their computer on],
*don't* use protective measures like proper firewalls, up-to-date
virus protection, or taking advantage of MS-provided patches.

Sorry I have NO SYMPATHY for those people. In my opinion they should not
even be allowed to own computers.

I saw. Big John said, in one paragraph, that most users are clueless. He
then went on at great length about how MSoft doesn't seem to be doing
anything proactively to defend the 'Net, and that most of the experts in
the media are just as far off-base. I agree with all three of those
assertions, which leads to my suggestion that we do not, perhaps, need
to educate and/or license my Aunt so much as we need to educate, license
and discipline the software developers and the media experts.

to prevent a WW3, and from countries going around doing as they please,
while the world turns a blind eye. I guess in this case, the UN felt that
the US wasn't presenting enough evidence to support an attack on Iraq. BTW,
there were more than a few facts in the State of the Union, that were later
found out that Bush's people knew that the facts were unsupported. And the
big question on CNN, "Would we have attacked Iraq with the facts that
weren't made up?"

I'm talking about doing things to other countries. By international law,
soverignties are technically, and unfortunately, allow to do what they
please to their own people.

International laws are broken all the time. The bigger you are the
more you can get away with.

NEWSFLASH! When you plan to go to war against a weaker country, you better
make sure that you have confirmed your facts, before you present them. The
US army, although accidental, killed civians and children, on some facts
that were false. And most importantly, were known to be false ahead of
time.

And clinton never had sex with monica. And every government in the
world uses propaganda.

Actually, my point was that even the corrupt CNN was questioning their
government's choice about the war. In fact, I wouldn't trust CNN if they
said the sky was blue. I get my news from CTV.

That's good because if clinton was in they would say all is OK.

Bottom line is the place is full of bad people and we WILL clean it
up. It's us or them, there or here.

Microsoft should not force an update on us. Reason,
I tried the xp auto update. I stayed online for 4 hours and no update
installed or downloaded. (Some started, but never finished). I used
windows update and it was a lot faster. Imagine what intenet traffic
that would cause. Also, how would you know for sure you system is
totally updated. This is what I know, when I go windows updates. I
also don't want the net feature.

I wonder why in ever film we see an apple computer. Not
an xp or an earlier version of windows. In this one movie. Their
was a computer that was a Mac but the company logo was an hp.

I explained that in my first response. Professional experience. I'm
a systems integrator and have seen very few companies moving to
WinXP, or any other Windows version for that matter. The trend
for the last two years has been away from MS and to Linux, BSD
and other unix-based OS's.
