My windows XP crashes when i open my computer. It does
not always do it put when it does crash it is because i
opened my computer. This happens several times per
week. The my computer window freezes (along with the
rest of the computer) and then after several minutes it
will unfreeze but most of the icons in the sysyem tray
are gone. Any ideas? Thank you.

Define crash. Are you getting a STOP code? If so, what code is it?

Crash=computer freezes for several minutes and than it
unfreezes and most of the icons in the system tray are
gone. No STOP code

Is "anonymous" the OP? If no, then how does s/he know what the OP means
by "crash"? If yes, then you (or the OP) don't give enough information
to get a good answer. The "freezing" could be caused by hardware or
software or even a combination. Start by checking for overheating -
open the case and run open, observing all fans and feeling the
temperature of the components. Then do a RAM test - I like Memtest86.
Then test your hard drive, and then the motherboard. As for software,
look in Event Viewer for clues. Are you doing the same thing every time
the computer freezes? If yes, then the problem may be with that
program. Random freezes tend to be hardware issues. Post back with your
system specs and what you've done to troubleshoot (based on the
suggestions above) and what the results were.
