Not receiving mail from one user only

Two weeks ago, email from my cousin in Ireland stopped being received (I am
in the USA) for no apparent reason. She has checked/verified my address that
she is sending to and it is correct. I have checked/verified that there are
no blocks or filters turned on that should prevent her email from coming
thru. I have even checked to make sure that her domain "ie" for Ireland is
not blocked from my email. I had previously been receiving her email with no
problems and had made no changes to my email program or computer.

I have gone to her email address, right clicked and scrolled to "junk mail",
then clicked on "add user to safe sender's list" and also "add user's domain
to safe sender's list". On the specific day I do that, her emails will come
thru. Then the next day, they no longer come thru and continue to disappear.

She receives no error messages, nor do I. I never receive the emails. We
have verified this by calling each other on the phone so I know she is
sending multiple emails daily that I do not receive.

I have contacted Comcast, but no solution to date. Have been using McAfee
firewall and Norton anti-virus. All of my other email seems to be coming
thru fine, it is just the email from my cousin in Ireland that I have not
been receiving.

Thanks for any suggestions!

As a test, I suggest you uninstall your McAfee and Norton security software.
Windows Mail is not compatible with them.

Thank you for your response. Have tried this and all settings are fine and
have no trouble receiving any other mail. Thank you.

Thank you, have had McAfee and Norton for ages and never any trouble like
this. All email coming thru is fine, just out of the blue am not receiving
from Ireland. Thanks much.

McAfee and Norton antivirus programs are usually slow at causing
problems in Windows Mail - it can take months to see the problems.

You would do well to search through these newsgroup messages
for references to trouble with McAfee and Norton.

Thank you, will do. Have been using Norton for years, but with Outlook
Express and never had any problems. But I have been using Windows Mail only
since January. Am now checking mail first thru the comcast server and not my
mail program to take that out of the loop and determine if the email from
Ireland is even reaching the comast server. Appreciate your help.

You have been very lucky then. Norton and McAfee are notorious for causing
problems with Outlook Express. For more than ten years, version after
version.

Thanks everyone. So far, my mail from Ireland has not appeared on the
comcast server when I check there and my cousin had called to say she was
sending me daily test emails. However, to be sure, I will call her to verify
her sending a test email and then check the comcast server. Have also
checked into threads on this board regarding Norton and McAfee so continue to
follow up on that end as well.
I really appreciate your input.

Looks like your Windows Mail has a clean bill of health if those
messages are not even appearing on the webmail server.

To all of those who were so gracious and knowlegeable to help me with this
issue, thank you. I promised I'd let you all know the outcome and the
problem has finally been fixed.

As most of you suspected, the issue seemed to reside in the McAfee program
which came with the new laptop I got for Christmas, and as one of you told
me, it must have just taken a couple of months for it to start affecting my
email. After uninstalling McAfee, I am now able to receive email from
Ireland. One thing still confuses me, and that is why the email from Ireland
wasn't even making it thru to comcast.net when I checked mail there prior to
checking it thru my Windows mail. Can McAfee affect email at that level as
well?

I still to have Norton on my laptop, I've been using Norton for years with
no email issues, albeit not with Vista if that makes a difference. I wish I
knew why my email from Ireland was targeted by the McAfee program, and it was
only email from Ireland (I hope!). My cousin had friends sending me test
emails too, all of which apparently now reside in a black hole in space. But
perhaps McAfee didn't like something about the international
servers/providers. I wish I could retrieve all of the lost email, but I am
just grateful that everything is working now. It's a bit costly to call
Ireland for daily chit chat. (though I'm looking into skype....!)

Anyway, thank you all very much. I really appreciate all of your input and
it was instrumental in resolving this problem.

Good to hear that the problem has been resolved.
There may have been more than one factor involved.
It is hard to imagine how your McAfee program could have kept the
server from receiving emails originating in Ireland.

My husband said the same thing about McAfee not affecting the comast server
from receiving emails, which is why he had told me to check email at the
server first each dayt to help pinpoint where the actual problem actually
originated. I had also been emailing comcast with the problem, but the said
they never found anything on their end and sent me some test emails and
suggested I have my cousin check some things on her end. Anyway, since my
husband uninstalled McAfee and also updated Norton, I've been receiving my
cousin's emails again so hope that all will continue to be fine.
Thanks again!

Did you run this cleanup program after uninstalling McAfee to take care
of what the uninstall left behind?

Note that having more than one antivirus program installed at a time
is known to cause assorted problems in Vista.

Also note that we see people complain about problems in Windows
Mail caused by Norton antivirus programs more often than problems
caused by any other antivirus program, although it often takes months
for these problems to show up. If you have a version that allows you
to disable email scanning, I suggest that you do this.

Hello,

Can someone tell me how clicking on an email address shortcut can be made to
default to Windows Mail?

Thanks

John
