My wife receives an inordinate amount of unsolicited emails a day - anything up to 10 or 12.
A lot of them from the USA and she has no idea why.
She's cerainly not very active on the internet and uses it only for the basics, so she's not going on any 'dodgy' websites (as far as she knows).
Some of it ends up in her Junk folder or Bulk Mail but some still get through to her Inbox.
How have they all got access to her email address?
We both use the Thunderbird as our email client.
Is there anything we can do to stop or curtail it?

I've been receiving about five of the McAfee and/or Norton scam emails a day plus many others and haven't found a way to stop them.
They all come from different email addresses, so blocking the sender doesn't work.

I use Juno and Thunderbird.

Instead of blocking addresses try setting up with subject line filtering, it works wonders. I have been using Gmail since 90's never have any problem. I do not use email client anymore.

Which e-mail provider do you use? Is it someone like gmail.com or outlook.com (or an ISP one powered by one of these)? If so, their spam filters are pretty good. I don't see much spam in my inbox, but I get a TON that is filtered out to my junk folder. It saves me a ton of time :).

Yes, I use the gmail spam filter and it takes out about 20 per day without me seeing them (unless, of course, I check them). Any new junk that arrives, I simply add to the filter list. and it doesn't appear in the Inbox again. :)

Juno does filter out some spam, but when I get my mail using Thunderbird, it retrieves the messages from the Junk Mail folder in Juno as well as the Inbox.

Click on Filters and it basically tells you what to do. It's straightforward. :)

It's usually the email address that you put in.
Thanks, I'll have a look (on my phone at the moment).
But if it just filters out specific email addresses, I doubt that will be much help as the spammers never use the same one twice.

That's true but at least it's a start. And, certainly on gmail, I can put in a subject or even specific words that can sometimes take out multiple emails. :)

Any unsolicited email: Take the time - Reply - remove the senders email - then reply to Abuse@(your mail provider) and Abuse@(the email sender. Example for My Comcast Email receiving a gmail : (e-mail address removed); (e-mail address removed)
B.T.W. It is not uncommon to see a government university compromised, spammers are running the university email system to send out spam. I typically look up the IT Administrator AND the College Board to let them know. Often the Boards don't provide enough funding for the IT department. I remind the Board that the publicity of child porn being run from their enterprise could be devastating to Alumni donations. President Biden made a big point to fund the fight on Spam & Phishing. Yep, lots of money put into government agencies. We can't seem to acquire any status reports on the use, accomplishment of the funding. I remind my elected representatives about this and encourage everyone to do the same. It would only take 100,000 inquiries from voters to maybe look into the spending.
