Norton antivirus

This programme is causing a problem and I am unable to
delete it via add/remove etc. It wont let me download all
of the virus definitions nor can I enable auto protect.

As a result (I think) I am unable to turn off or restart
the computer in the normal way.

I shjould be most grateful if someone can help me please.

What version Norton do you have?
