problems with Norton SystemWorks 2003

I have the updated virus definitions for Norton Antivirus and the
auto-protect is always on. I just manually scanned my computer for viruses
and found two. Norton was able to clean it out, but Norton should have
caught the virus before it hit me computer since the auto-protect was on.
The virus was Trojan.ByteVerify with files names of "Dummy.class" and
VerifierBug.class." Why am I getting a virus on my computer with the
auto-protect on? Has this happened to anyone?

Any suggestions???

It came in prior to you getting the latest virus definitions? At any rate,
you caught it now so be happy!

Happy Holidays!

Well, let me give more details. I reinstalled my computer (so I know no
viruses are on my computer) and updated everything including the antivirus
yesterday. From yesterday to today, I had the auto-protect on. I was
surfing today and decided to due a manual scan. That's when Norton caught
the virus. Now, since the computer was virus yesterday and I had the
auto-protect on constantly, why didn't Norton auto-protect stop the virus
from coming into my computer today.

I'm just wondering if there's a defect in Norton Antivirus 2003 auto-protect
feature. It should have caught the virus today since the computer was virus
free yesterday and the auto-protect has been on constantly.

What you think?

I had similar problem before.

I use MSN explorer to check my email box and some of spams come with virus
also infected my system. Yes, I always put the auto-protect on.

I decided to scan my system each and everytime after I used MSN and now is
better. I guess two reasons - (1) MSN has also improved their anti-virus
mechanism, and (2) I use Outlook to download emails, in which case,
auto-protect then can prevent me from infection.

Many web contents - as far as I know, whether it's email or web page do
contain various virus. It is why Outlook 2003, by default, does not show
any Web images of email, unless you classify the email is from a safe
sender.
