Purchased this OEM version of XPPro from Newegg.com 07-27-2004. The CD is
"hologrammed" and the
COA is of the same style, font type and color and the one that came on a
retail version of XPPro which I
purchased. This is a GENUINE product and I resent being "accused" of using
an illegal copy. However,
if in fact MS proves it is an illegal copy, I shall require that I am given
such evidence so that I can file suit
against Newegg, either separately or as a co-filing plaintiff with MS.

Notified Newegg this morning and below is their response:

Now Carey, WHY should he have to buy a WGA Kit when he bought the software
from Newegg, he obviously has a genuine copy!

Ray I would suggest you put in your windows xp cd and run a repair install
of windows. If your cd didn't come with SP2 you may want to slipstream it to
do so follow the instructions here...

Slipstreaming Windows XP w/ SP2 by Paul Thurrott
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.asp

After you have slipstreamed or if you already have sp2 on your disc then put
in the cd and boot to it, you may have to change some settings in your BIOS
to boot to CD first. At the first screen hit enter, second screen hit f8,
and 3rd screen hit the "R" key. If you do not get a 3rd screen in which you
hit R and instead get a screen that displays drive information then you will
have to backup your information and format and clean install Windows XP.
Good Luck

lol, you berated the mostly automated WGA assistance process in

succeed?

Cute.

No one said the OP had to "buy a WGA Kit". Based on the information the OP
provided, he would more than likely qualify for a FREE WGA Kit.

FYI, a "Blocked PID" indicates a Product Key that was reported stolen to MSFT
and was verified as being stolen. It could be that Newegg inadvertently and unknowingly,
purchased some high-quality, counterfeit OEM Windows XP CDs a few years ago.

Employees or whoever were using the numbers from the
tag affixed to the case to install XP. The first one to use
WGA has the edge. It will then show up as not valid
for the original buyer.
This is a real world problem. I am in the process of slowly
switching to MAC's. One company, one OS, few to no
viruses, etc, etc.

you should *quickly* switch to MACs (not slowly) and don't bother to
tell us about it. We are not interested in what you do. When you
decide to come back to Windows then you can tell us that as this is what
we are interested in!!

Good luck!!

What is so difficult for you, Carey, to write that the most common
method of stealing OEM product keys is for an individual to do it?
It is one of the easiest things to do and God only wonders who was
the genius who dreamed up the idea of requiring the PK's to be put
on the outside of computer cases. How else would the PK be reported
to be stolen except when it has been flagged for "overuse"? And I am

WOW POP!! You really do backup my opinion of you Being Careys little troll
doing everything by his command. Now Careys name came up and it says nothing
in the post. Wait a minute could it be... Could POP be Carey in sheeps
clothing? I hope not for Carey's sake! POP you are the most useless poster
on here and if there was a moderator I wish he would block your posts!

Now you and Carey both think that someone who has legally bought a version
of Windows from a legit retailer like newegg.com should have to buy a new
version? You two should be hogtied and hung over a fire for your BS thoughts
on the whole WGA subject. Carey has useful help every now and again but I
have yet to see POP with anything useful.

Ray! Do not try and sue newegg just follow my advice in my earlier post.
Newegg sells genuine LEGIT products. This is an ongoing problem with
Microsofts WGA notification which I would imagine that they will be sued
themselves for this nonsense windows update called the WGA. In which you may
be able to join the suit and win some money because you have been affected by
their crappy non tested update that they so hastily released to "stop the
fraudulent copies of windows" but sometimes I think it was really to tell
people that their legit copies were bad so they have to go out and buy new
ones and Microsoft makes more money. I truly like Microsoft products but I
am slowly but surely being drained of my pride in Microsoft. So far I have
refused to try Mac or Linux but it may be a future for me. I know if you are
still reading this you must be out of your mind to read such a long post.
Sorry to all of those whom I wasted their time! This was just to get POP and
Carey to waste some of their valuable time! haha

When validation fails, you'll see
a button to click on which will provide information on
how to acquire a WGA Kit.

So what is the direct link to the page that will 'provide information on
how to acquire a WGA kit' ?

I'm interested in what is says.

You have to be running a non-genuine version of Windows XP,
then visit www.microsoft.com/genuine and click "Validate Windows". When
validation fails, a button appears, you then click on to it access the details of the WGA Kit offer.

And it "could be" that an MS employee(s) decided to help themselves to a
list
of PKs and made some extra cash....what galls me is that MS assumes that
the consumer is "guilty until proven innocent" . If , in fact, MS "verified
the PK
was stolen", then why can't MS simply notify those customers who have
registered their product that the PK was reported stolen and that they (MS)
would like for the customer to PLEASE send MS a copy of the receipt, the
COA and digital/scanned & printed image of the CD. If the customers'
documentation is deemed legit, then MS should send the customer a new
and VALID / GENUINE product key...No Questions Asked.

That really does not say much since the OP should have provided
a better desription between the OEM COA and the Retail Product
Key. I know the difference and I am sure you do and all of the
Windows XP-SP2 OEM kits that we bought from Newegg match properly
for genuineness. But the OP did not venture that much. And the
OP's WGA data does prove that he got an OEM Windows XP cdrom, in
any event.

In following your plight, it might be time to get some of the
heavyweight players into action. Do a search for the Officers
of Newegg, Inc., and send them a pleasant but informative letter
about your situation. Explain to them the solutions that you
are being offered by Microsoft and add that a certain MVP has
practically accused Newegg of fraud. Propose a solution, viz.,
replace your OEM Windows XP and PK with a known good one. Bet
you will get it. And perhaps Newegg may also push a few buttons
with its distributor and even MS to generate a better solution.
Hitting Microsoft in the pocketbook is where it really hurts and
it takes a big enough player to do it.

Explain to them the solutions that you

practically accused Newegg of fraud.

Where did you read that a certain MVP "practically accused Newegg of fraud"?

Are you referring to what Carey wrote?
"It could be that Newegg inadvertently and unknowingly, purchased some
high-quality, counterfeit OEM Windows XP CDs a few years ago."

If so, which part of "inadvertently and unknowingly" are you saying could be
construed as an accusation of fraud?

If not, what/where is this accusation you refer to?
