From the included EULA:

"Distribution

I retain all right to the program, but freely authorize
the distribution of copies of this version as long as...

- no fee is charged for the program except to cover the
basic distribution costs of media and shipping (not to
exceed $5.00 US),

- the program and all associated files are only distributed
in their original archive and are not altered in any way,

- it is not included as part of another commercial product,

- absolutely no bison are harmed in the distribution process. ^_^

This product may be included in any software collection
downloadable through electronic means (including web sites,
FTP sites, and Bulletin Board Systems) as long as no fee is
charged to gain access to or download this product."

INCLUDED - thanks again.

If you sort the page on the PW_CD column you will see about 50 programs
without *any* notation.

X-Setup Pro, version 6.5, the one you link to first at:
<http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/PL2004PROGRAMMING.htm#A818>
with <http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4083.html>

Redistributional in our case, see second paragraph in quote from the
relevant part of the EULA below.
(Eula is the first thing the user sees when installing it, and have to
click accept to proceed. Eula also explains of course when it is
freeware and not).

DISTRIBUTION

It is allowed to include X-Setup Pro on a cover CD-ROM for a book
or a magazine without asking the permission of Xteq Systems or
dotec.de, but only if Xteq Systems or dotec.de are informed about
this. This information of Xteq Systems and dotec.de can be made
by writing an email to (e-mail address removed).

Private or non-commercial distribution is allowed, providing that
no fee is charged, except for any fees necessary to cover the
cost of distribution media. No information of Xteq Systems or
dotec.de is necessary.

The user is specifically prohibited from charging, or requesting
donations, for any copies, however made, and from distributing
such copies with other products of any kind, commercial or
otherwise, without prior written permission from Xteq Systems and
dotec.de. Xteq Systems and dotec.de reserves the right to revoke
the above distribution rights at any time, for any or no reason.

Susan, passing you a full copy of the EULA via email from my
*private* e-mail address, attached in rar archive:
x-setup_65Final_EULA.rar.

Ps: as I guess you know X-teg have announced they will go shareware,
but have said versions prior to 7.0, thus 6.x, will still be freeware
for those that qualify according to the current licence.

Got it, couldn't open it :( - will worry about that later ;)

Then for later: Try, save the attachment instead of open, then open it
as any file from within Explorer or any file manager. If it does not
save with RAR extension, then just rename it *.rar after having saved
it. Then try dbl-click/or File Open from your archiver. If your
archiver can not handle rar files you know where to look, like
<http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/PL2004FILEUTILITIES.htm#Archives:Unzip>
<http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/PL2004FILEUTILITIES.htm#Archives:Zip-Unzip>
or get free unrar from <http://www.rarsoft.com/rar_add.htm> :)

If your e-mail client did not decode it from MIME BASE64 when you
saved it, so it is not yet a "rar" file but a "MIME" one (look at it
with text viewer to get an idea) then use
UUDWin32 (*) <http://my.execpc.com/~mspankus/>
to decode it first, check that name of output file - make sure it
*.rar or make it so, then use unrar/archiver.

(*) and if you do use UUDWin32 you might even support my nomination
for it next year, did not make it last
"UUDWin (Email And News Tool) 4 (out)" :)

Anyone may distribute both versions in anyway they see fit as long as
they remain in an unmodified state and no profit is being made from the
distribution.

In particular we encourage software magazines etc. that wants to include
the software on a CD or similar to do so. There is no need for any
written permission in addition to this one.

because: no licence file as such nor any "no-distribution" clause in
the distribution (zip archive) or program. No help-about screen
either. Only thing with info in the archive is the (very helpful as
such) manual pages (html), which can also bee seen online. The
WAssociate.html page (framed, open index.html) in the archive says the
same as the online page (also framed) about status:

Can not find any other info about this on the authors main page:

I discovered the email address by looking at the exe file properties -
have emailed asking for permission. . .

I think I'll apply for a P.I. (private investigaor) license ;)

more exe files to check out - now that I know useful info may lurk there
- unless somebody does it for me (hint, hint).

I just uploaded a revised page:

only a few blanks left. . . quite a few I haven't heard back from yet.

(NOTE: an ISO of the CD may be available for
download if details can be worked out.)

That is an excellent idea. Saves people time waiting for a mailed
CD "master", or "copy", to arrive at their place. If a list of the
pricelessware software that isn't included on the CD is on the CD
and/or elsewhere then that would be even better.

Perhaps something like ;

http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/PL2004ProgramIndexCD.php

BUT would it still be usable (read sortable) if included ?

Regards, John.

I was going to put it on my site. The space is no problem, but the
bandwidth might be. I'm right at 12 gigs out of 30 for March, so I
have 18 gigs to spare. I guess I'm good for 20 downloads or so per
month.

Hi REM,

Why not let the people that are going to burn copies have *first* chance
at downloading the ISO from your site - since it appears you will have
to ration the number of people who are allowed to download?

FWIW - ISTM that *next* year the process would work better if the person
who *assembles* the final CD had a high speed connection. I could easily
email web pages etc. to whoever had the programs. . . just looking down
the road a bit. . .

meanwhile. . . we're still working on this year :)

and I'm *not* planning to download the new version of OO ;)
Maybe derek and someone else can provide for alternate download sites
to allow for faster proliferation.

Or, possibly one of the programs like WinMX can be used by some of the
first people to get the image to allow others with fast connections to
get it from them.

Can anyone volunteer to get the image and make it available a via file
sharing program?

I don't have anything useful to add - will just keep reading the thread
and see what you come up with. :)

I suppose this is necessary, although the WinMx way will allow it to
reach people quickly also.

Yes, OO is a good example of a late entry.

I don't blame you there.

Is anyone with a cable connect willing to make the image available

PGP:

The commandline version (GnuPG) is redistributable under the GNU licence:

"This file is free software; as a special exception
the author gives unlimited permission to copy and/or
distribute it, with or without modifications, as long
as this notice is preserved."

Download link: ftp://ftp.pgpi.org/pub/pgp/gnupg/gnupg-w32cli-1.2.2.zip

The other versions (such as the second download link on the Pricelessware
page) are NOT redistributable!
From the download site www.pgp.com:

"No individual or organization is permitted to mirror or
redistribute in any way-electronically or otherwise-the
PGP 8.0.3 Freeware. This site is the only PGP-sanctioned
source for the PGP Freeware."

So if you include it, be careful to take only the GNU version, and exclude
the other.
