On WinXP Pro SP2, brand new laptop. Trying to setup printing but when I do
Properties, Print Test Page I keep getting "Test page failed to print...".
It's going to a network printer on an NT4sp6a server. That printer and the
queue work fine now on other WinXP & Win98 machines. Network connectivity
from laptop to server is 100% fine.
I believe the problem is either permissions or driver-related, but I can't
seem to fix.
I recall a similar problem somewhere else that I think was permissions.
Also, another symptom is that in printer properties, when I click on
"Printing Preferences..." button, the dialog box will not open... it just
flashes for a fraction of second.
So I gave the laptop user Full Control of the printer on the server, but
that didn't help... plus it's kind of crazy to have to do that!
As for the driver, I believe is being installed on the laptop from the
server... I'm wondering if I should download & install the driver directly
from HP to the laptop?
Again, other computers on the LAN, including other WinXP Pro SP2's, are
currently connected to this same printer and printing fine to it.
I've searched MS KB and Google and there is nothing I can find for my
symptoms.
Any advice?
Thanks!
