SP3 network printer problem

Pat Coleman

Using SBS 2003 sp2 on a server with a dell 5110 cn networked printer on the
network.

Upgraded to SP3 and there seems to be a permission problem printing to the
network printer. - it wont print.

Getting a printer error id = 20 in the event viewer every time I try to
print a test page.

On the xp client, can see the printer in the printer box, I can uninstall
and reinstall it, can view its properties byt can not print a test page.

Instant error as soon as I press 'print test page' - can not print to
printer - see network administrator.

I have looked at all the basic settings and they appear fine.

Only happened after upgraded to xp sp 3

Can't speak specifically about that model but I found that SP3 broke my
Dell 3100CN pretty thoroughly. My problem was that I could print through
the PCL drivers but not through the PostScript ones and those where I had
finally managed to get things like envelope printing to work. I uninstalled
SP3 and reinstalled it twice just to be absolutely sure that it was the
problem.

The fix was to get the newest drivers from the Dell site. Be forewarned:
they don't make it at all clear what new versions are available. At least I
looked several times before I found a version that was newer than the
existing ones but that did the trick. I also installed the new printer
firmware although that didn't really apply to the printing problem.

Thanks

I think that could be my problem also.
