Okidata Microline 92 printer Driver

Window XP Home SP3 all updates. Trying to get an Okidata Microline 92
printer to work. When the XP supplied driver is installed the test page
starts to print garbage and then hangs the printer. A text file printed
in a command prompt window using the DOS print command works. When the
generic /text only driver is installed the test page prints correctly
none of the other generic drivers work. Have tryed printing using Word
and Notepad. Any suggestions?

Try downloading a Windows XP SP3 specific driver from the Okidata website
for the Microline 92 printer. This one will probably work better than any
generic driver provided by the Windows XP operating system.

Their web site says that XP has the latest driver and there is nothing
to download.

Interesting. When did the printer stop working correctly? After you
installed SP3? If so, you might have to uninstall SP3.

No. The printer has just been sitting unused for a number of years. My
nephew now need to print 2 part forms. So we are trying to get this old
printer to work.

I hate to ask a silly question, but if the printer works with the
generic/text only driver, why worry about it? You're printing, aren't you?

Or is there some feature/function of the printer that the generic
drivers don't use? I can't think of any; if I remember correctly, that
model printer was made in the early to mid '90s and was just a basic
tractor-driven dot matrix printer, with no fancy wells and whistles.

Make to check the following:

1) Set the PC's Parallel port setting the either EPP or SPP. ECP
cause these type of "issues."

2) Test the parallel cable.

Yes. He need to print a form which contains his company logo. You are
off a few years on the printer. The tag says March 1984. <g> I know my
Epson from around the same time was installed and printed from Windows
'95.

I found another cable an installed an Epson FX-85 on my Windows XP SP3.
The machine did not see the printer as new hardware but when I add the
printer it installed fine. I will take both this cable and printer and
see if they work on my nephews machine the next time I go over there.
