XP installation problems

After trying to install XP home upgrade I spent a few hours with MS techs and
got the job done. He found a bad file and eventually I got booted into
windows. Now some problems. I have a logitech mouse with wheel and a button
on the side that saves double clicking. That doesn't work even though I
re-installed the software. I have McAfee virus scan on line and just recently
renewed my suscription. No Problem?? I signed in and re-downloaded my
program. During the installation a popup tells me that McAfee virus is not
comptable with a program I have called Norton Rescue disk and can not be
installed although the rest of the components installed ok. Problem is I
don't have Norton. I did have it on the computer a couple months ago and
uninstalled it. So I did a search and found a few Norton files and Symantec
files and deleted them. I disabled system restore so nothing could hide in
there and ran search again. I went to IE properties and deleted cookies and
temp files and viewed objects. No Norton or Symantec in there. Have view
hidden files checked. Can find no trace of Norton. Tried to install again.
Same problem. had to re-install my HP printer and lost some of the original
features like the HP toolbox where you can clean the cartridges, check the
ink level and callibrate. All gone. My only gripe with ME was the resource
problem, I may just go back to ME and deal with it unless I can get some help
from you experts. Noel probably knows where that Norton file is hiding.
Thanks
Kelly

Your problem appears to be related to Norton and McAfee,
not to Windows XP. I suggest you try the Norton FAQs in
order to find out how to really remove the last traces of Norton,
and the McAfee FAQs for tips on how to overcome your
current problem.

I've heard that upgrading to XP from 98 or ME can be problematical. I
suggest a clean install of XP and that you reinstall your programs.

I realize this could be a pain, but it's probably less grief in the
long run.
