Norton Rescue Disk

I just installed the XP Home Edition upgrade. I have (had) virus scan on line
and just renewed my subscriptom recently. After installing XP, I needed to
re-install McAfee. I signed in and started the down load. When I ran it a
popup came up and said virus scan could not be installed because a file
Norton Rescure Disk was on my computer. (Dell 4100) I had Norton on my puter
for a couple days 6 months ago but un-installed it. I did a file search and
found a few Norton and Symantec files and deleted them. I could not find a
Norton Rescue file anywhere. Tried the download again and got the same
message. I can find no other Norton. Where is it hiding? I went to McAfee
newsgroup and they gave me a program to clean out Norton files. Ran it twice
and tried again to download McAfee. No luck. I had a three hour session with
MS techs to get XP installed. When I shut it down it just reboots again. My
Logitech mouse with the side clicker doesn't work. Re-installed the software
with no luck. Missing some features with my HP printer. No way to calibrate
or check ink level. Any help is welcome.
Thanks
Kelly

Charles...

go to the Symantec site and download their remover, it gets rid of all the
traces of previously uninstalled norton apps

It gets rid of a percentage of the components - Not all and most
definitely does leaves Symantec/Norton Registry remnants behind.

There is no need to have the HP driver software installed during an upgrade.
Some require XP specific HP driver software in the aftermath of an
"upgrade".

A Norton rescue disk is a set of files that are copied over to diskettes
when using the rescue disk asset on NAV. The source of the virus definition
files are kept on the subdirectory where the subdirectory of Common Files of
NAV common files were originally was installed, and is accessed from these
diskettes by default. The user may also target other media rather than a
set of floppy diskettes as well.

Do have spyware/adware installed?
Destry them using Spyware-Terminater, Spybot or AdAware.

Next, File entries pertaining to Norton may be hiding in The Windows
Registry.

Try registry cleaners.
I recommend 'Regseeker' from http://www.hoverdesk.net

Hope, this helps.
By the way, you could also perform a CLEAN installation of Win XP home +
Updates, then install McAfee.

Thanks.
