Thank you.
So when burning to a DVD, is it possible to avoid write protection
being created?

Only is you use packet-writing software like InCD or Roxio's Drag to CD.
Otherwise, once you have completed the DVD burn, the disk becomes like a
DVD-ROM disk.

BUT, there should be nothing stopping you from copying the contents of
the disk to your HDD, erasing the DVD, and then copying whatever files
you need from the HDD back to the DVD.
