Word 2000 templates

I have a current document that is quite lengthy. I am trying to apply a new
template that I created after I created the document. Does anyone know how to
do so without cut and pasting?
 
What I usually do is, go to the old document, hit Ctrl-A to "select all",
select "copy" and then paste the entire document into the new format (by
right clicking in the new document and clicking pase). It's easy to do and
only requires a couple of key strokes and clicks of the mouse.
