update on my computer and now outlook is asking for actvation key

i need to use outlook and it will not work without a new activation key is
this normal? And do I have to purchase it when my older version was working

Each new version of Outlook (and Office) is a separately licensable product.
Holding a license for one version does not convey the right to use later
versions. So, yes, you'll need to purchase a legitimate license for and
activate the newer version.
