Outlook refuses to save my POP3 password

Outllook 2003 on XP w/SP2 won't save my Pop3 password -- it prompts me every
time I connect. If I set up a Hotmail account for access in Outlook it wont
even connect -- keeps asking for password but never lets me in.

This had all been working fine for a long time, I believe it even worked
initially after SP2 install but about a week ago I started having trouble.
Found and followed the KB article on clearing the protected storage key in
the registry but still no go.

Tried using office/outlook repair. Tried creating a new outlook profile.

Outlook Express works fine.

Any ideas?

My guess is the one titled, "Save password setting not retained in
Outlook."

Already tried that: didn't work. What I've ended up doing was create a new
user account
on the machine then used the files and settings transfer wizard to transfer
most of my settings to the new account -- I was able to pull in my old
outlook pst files and passwords save fine now (but of course there are now a
lot of personal settings etc. that I have to re-establish). Thanks any way.

Sounds like you probably had a corrupted mail profile. By creating
another user account under the OS, you got a new mail profile. It
might've worked by using your old account and use the Mail applet in
Control Panel to create a new mail profile to see if the problem went
away. But apparently your solution worked.
