Uninstallin Norton

In my less than saavy computer days, I installed "Norton System Works
Utilities 2003". When I recently tried to uninstall the software, I get a
message similar to:

"Uninstall log file not valid or data has been corrupted. Uninstall will not
continue."

Granted, this has not caused any harm or problems with the computer, but I'd
like it off of there. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!

Bert,

Why have you found it necessary to take the Norton Removal Tool & put it on
another site?

I would suggest to anyone NEVER download the Norton Removal Tool from anyone
other than the developers site.

Here's the direct link to the Windows 2000/XP/Vista:

ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

Here's the tool for Windows 98/ME:

Bert,

MVP Status still doesn't ensure trust

Why couldn't Brian just put links to the developers site & say Open In New
Window? Has he included the trust certificate checker? Doubtful. But his way
guarantees hits to the site, doesn't it?

There is one user who puts all the Spybot... links to the developer sites in his

Once again it has nothing to do with hits on my site. We've been down this road
before, and as I mentioned previously I could care less about site hits. They mean
squat to me and I have no gain from them whats-so-ever. The pages which are on my
site have been there since Symantec's conception of offering the utilities.

There is a link to the page and always has been, which is above the utility links I
provide as a courtesy for those that have trouble with Symantec's site.
For the moment I have made it more clear to the eyball that the user with the issue
go to the link.

Brian,

Thanks for the reply,

Do you have the tool to prove the user are running genuine signed software?

Still don't see why you have to host their files on your site & do you have
their permission to host these files? A direct link to the executables is a
better idea

Why would anyone have trouble with the Symantec site? Amittedly, their site
search is hopless but their servers I'm sure are equally as good, if not better
than where you have your site hosted

Wait - hold everything. I tried it & it didn't work, I don't think.

However, the error message now says something about not being able to find a
install file, rather than a "data is corrupted" message. But the thing is
still in my programs list. Any other suggestions? Again this is Norton
Utilities 2003 I'm trying to dump. Thanks in adavance

You can not use RNAV to remove NSW or NAV that was installed with it, RNAV will
ONLY remove Norton AntiVirus 5.0/2000/2001/2002 or 2003.
You need to use the disk or .exe file you installed it with which has the option to
uninstall. If that fails then you need:
Removing Norton SystemWorks 2003 from Windows 2000/XP after Add/Remove Programs does
not work

Brian:

I'm pretty sure the disc was pitched long ago. Therefore, should I proceed
with your second step? And does it matter that in the "Add/Remove" list, this
thing is labeled "Norton Utilities 2003" rather than "System Works?" Thanks
again!
