Windows Installer and Norton 2005

Q: Whenever I start up my computer (without hibernating it) or open a
Microsoft Office program, I get this annoying Windows Installer that says
"Please wait while Windows configures Norton AntiVirus 2005", then it pops up
with an error message "Norton does not support the Repair feature. Please
uninstall then reinstall". I click this about three times, then it disappears
and I can continue. What is going on?
