antivirus startup problem

I just installed Norton antivirus 2005 and now whenever the computer starts,
a windows installer window appears for a few seconds and then a second
window appears that says:

Norton Antivirus 2005 does not support the Repair feature. Please uninstall
and re-install the software.

It takes about three times hitting the x at the top right of the error
window for the notice to finally disappear and then it seems OK, but I'm not
sure if the software is actually working correctly other than the tray icon
is normal.
It makes no mention of what this repair feature is and what to do about it,
and I can't find any options for such a feature in Norton or in Windows.
Naturally, I uninstalled and reinstalled the software a few times and this
did nothing.
Can anyone please advise me on what is going wrong and how to fix it?
I run Windows XP and have had Norton Antivirus 2003 and Norton Systemworks
2004 before installing this one and it never came up.
I also run Zone Alarm Pro on the computer.
Thanks a lot for any advice.

I do not recommend to use any Norton/Symantec software.

Message: "Norton AntiVirus 2005 does not support the repair feature.
Please uninstall and reinstall."

Thanks, I did get it sorted from advice on a newsgroup. Apparently, if you
place the shortcut anywhere but where the default installation puts it, this
message shows up. As soon as I moved it back to the original place, the
error message disappeared.
I am pretty fed up with the activation crapola from symantec, though. They
wanted about £20 to discuss the problem over the phone. I told them to shove
it.
Groups like these are now the only place to find any sort of useful advice
for problems.
Would you recommend any other antivirus as better or at least equal to the
norton ones? McAfee? Is it worthwhile to just reinstall the 2003 and use the
virus definitions to keep it updated? I know how to sidestep the expiration
problem by going through the registry and deleting all references to the
software and its components so that when I reinstall it it thinks it's a
fresh install and gives me another year. I wasn't able to do this with 2004
systemworks because the activation blocked me. Only when I reformat and
reinstall a fresh system is this possible (at least as far as I know) with
2004.
Thanks to everyone for your help.

For whatever it may be worth, I abandoned the Symantec product about
eight months ago in favor of Grisoft's AVG, available at
www.grisoft.com.

I've got it on all three of our machines, one with XP Home and two
with XP Pro, and have had no problems with it.
