After a live update the computer now flashes this message up on the screen :
NMain.exe-Application Error,failed to initialize properly(0xc0000022)
I have four user accounts set up under XP SP2 but norton only shows in when
I am logged in. Are the other three still protected online by norton?
Also tried to uninstall and then reinstall but the mesage remains, and tried
removing live update and tried reinstalling that but it still has the same
problem. Any suggestions?

Norton Internet Security 2006 (NIS) is *not* a Microsoft product and the
support for said product would likely be best gotten from a
forum/newsgroup/FAQ page directly related to the manufacturer of said
product (Symantec.)

Without a doubt - you are likely to get more of a response/answer for the
trouble with said product from a Symantec Support site than from a Windows
XP General support site. ;-)

From this newsgroup - you will likely get several replies suggesting you rid
yourself of the resource hog NIS 2006 anyway. ;-)

That should actually state "Any newsgroup".

I realise Norton is not a Microsoft Product but thought as it runs on Windows
someone might know the answer.

Man you are a fool

Because I suggested politely you actually go to the software manufacturer
for assistance with problems you are having with said software instead of
asking about your problem with said software in an Operating System
newsgroup 'just because it runs on windows'?

Norton is not a product - by the way - it is the company name - and there
are Norton products for several OSes.

At least we have an idea of your attitude.

Was this computer ever infected with a virus(e.g. Smithfraud) ?

Was Ad-Aware or Spybot, Crap Cleaner, Easy Cleaner or similar utilized to remove any registy entries ?

Can you recall what type of Live Update was installed ?(Program, virus definitions, trusted applications, internet worm protection signatures, Symevnt, Protection Center, Security software or shared components ?

NIS protects the whole machine as long as Autoprotect is loaded. If it is not loaded in each profile, then it should be removed via add remove, use the Symantec removal utility for your NIS2006, restarted and reinstalled in an administrator profile.

Just to get you guys on the same page..

Symantec is the company name.
Norton is a brand like Frito Lay is for Pepsi Cola. NIS2006 is a product like Doritos.

You are correct, Winston... I stand corrected in that...

Specifically:
"Symantec’s Norton brand of consumer security solutions delivers Internet
security and problem-solving capabilities to individual users, home offices,
and small businesses. The Norton brand of products is a market leader in
desktop protection, with integrated products that work seamlessly to protect
customers’ computers from virus outbreaks and malicious attacks."

I also have a problem that is not affecting me but is preventing my son from
running Norton on his User. It began after I completed a Live Update. I have
Norton Antivirus 2006 installed on my Windows “XP Home†machine. When I log
on to an administrator account, there are no problems. When I log on to
another user account, ccapp.exe fails to initialize properly (0xc0000022). Do
you know why this might occur? This reappears if I try to double click the
Norton System works or Norton Firewall icons on his desktop. It looks like
Norton is not running on his user.

One answer I found on the net came up with the security permissions on
C:\Windows\System32\msvbvm60.dll may have been altered either intentionally
or unintentionally. They suggest you check the security settings under
properties for that file to make sure the "Read & Execute" and "Read"
permissions are checked. The security tab is not visible in Windows XP Home
Version so it suggests you have to go to "Folder Options" and turn on "Use
simple file sharing". This option (Use simple file sharing) is not in my
folder options. Do you have any other ideas what I might do?

Did you ever get an answer to your question?
I'm having the same problem and not sure what to do.

I do use Spybot. I'm not sure what Live Update elements were loaded but I did
have problems running Live Update and had to go to their Web site to run a
fix.

Unless you can elaborate more on the history and what fix you ran follow the prior information for removal, cleanup and reinstall.
Ensure that the Windows firewall is activated during the install.

It's best to contact Symantec Tech support on this, particularly since it
happened after a live update.

On another note I would recommend you get rid of NIS or any of the other
Norton home security products. They are, at best of times, resource hogs,
and can cause problems such as this sooner or later. You will be surprised
how much faster the system will run without it.

There are good alternatives, some of which are free. Anti-Virus: Avast
(free), Anti-Vir (free) AVG (free), NOD32 (paid), Kaspersky (paid);

Firewall (all free): Sunbelt Software Kerio Personal Firewall, Comodo
Personal Firewall, Zone Alarm (I don't recommend the latest release - it is
bloated);

Anti-Malware (all free): Ad-Aware SE Personal, SpyBot S&D, Windows Defender,
BHO Demon, Spyware Blaster, HijackThis.

Check Symantecs support site on the error "ccapp.exe fails to initialize properly
(0xc0000022)" that pertains to your specific app. Select your product and version in
the dropdown lists.

The Security tab and Simple File Sharing is only accessible on XP Home in Safe Mode
logged in as the Administrator.

The Symantec site gave me absolutely no information when I searched the error
"ccapp.exe fails to initialize properly
(0xc0000022)"
I also logged on in SAFE mode and checked the security settings for
C:\Windows\System32\msvbvm60.dll (thanks for that tip) but they are already
set on "Read" and "Read and Execute" permissions. The option (Use simple file
sharing) was not in my folder options in SAFE mode either.
Problem still exists

Thanks "Rock"
Do you have a way to contact Symantec Tech support. Their Web support site
gave me nothing.
Also I'm not running NIS.
