Startup problems

I bought a laptop about a year ago, everything has been fine with it until
the other day i turned it on, it got upto the Microsoft Windows XP loading
page with the green loading bar then it flashes up with a blue error screen
and restarts straight away with no time to read what the error is and so i am
unable to logon to my laptop. I have lots of valuable data on there and
desperately need to get into it, please can someone give me some ideas of
what to try?

I have tried booting from XP home cd and done Recovery Console and run chkdsk
but it failed due to corrupt files. Dont know what to try next.
