i have a dell laptop with a screen that dont work, so i use a moniter. and i try to get to the screens before start up but they dont appear. when i hit f2 for bios or f8 for the screen to redo that hard drive the moniter screen stays blank and i have to shut down adn restart and it restarts normally, without the opening screens available before the startup. how can i get the laptop bios page to recognize my moniter screen instead of the laptop screen that is unreadable.

need more information

Which Dell laptop are we talking about? What operating system? What is the monitor? How are you connecting the monitor to the laptop, HDMI, Display Port or just a plain old VGA port?

... and anything else I missed. :)
