There should be an external video connector on the laptop so plug the
monitor in there. What you do next depends on the laptop. Some IBM
laptops let you do FN F7 to switch to external only, then both screen and
external, then screen. Although one Bios upgrade on an R31 killed that and
you have to use software to setup a display configuration and select it.
Other model laptops do it differently but they all should have a Function
key and then the symbol of a monitor on the key you press to get the
external port working. The function key and it's functions are usually
color coded the same color.

That's MonitOr not moniter

You should have an external connector that you can plug your monitOr in,
nothing else should be necessary, you may have to go into the bios and enable
your external monitor plug

Maybe that's why it don't work, he's got a moniter and he should have a
monitor.

Some models may require a docking station.

To the OP, post the full make and model of your laptop.

Look in the laptop's manual to determine the location of its external
VGA connector, assuming it has one.
