SP2 and Annoying Windows Messenger Icon

I don't use Windows Messenger. It has always been disabled.

I installed SP2 and now an WM icon appears in the tray. If I try to "exit"
WM, a message appears and says can't do this as it would effect OE, IE, etc.

I disabled WM in startup but the icon appears [with a red "X" since I'm not
logged in] as soon as I access OE.

How can I defeat the annoying WM icon?

Thank you

I may have turned it off that way originally but it was so long ago I had
forgotten.

Simple with your help.

Thank you.

Try this:

Click Start->Run and enter "services.msc". Double-click Messenger, set
Startup type to manual, and click Stop

The Messenger Service is not the same as Windows Messenger.
