Windows/MSN Messenger after SP2

Prior to SP{2 , I was using WM together with the MSN Messenger plug-in and
all seemed reasonably logical. However, since installing SP2, I find that
the two Messenger products seem to have been driven apart. The plug-in is
still present but does not seem to provide the same degree of integration.

1. Windows Messenger - The system tray icon no longer shows my Net Passport
name for sign-in and it does not any longer take me to the Hotmail inbox
when I click on My e-mail Inbox. Instead, it opens Outlook. I have changed
that situation by modifying the Internet Properties in Internet Explorer but
still WM does not take me to the Hotmail Inbox. Instead, it takes me to a
sort of Hotmail entry page.

2. MSN Messenger - Works fine but no longer displays the dynamic list of
contacts in Outlook Express.

I asked MS On-line Support for help with this and all they suggested was
uninstalling SP2. That I did to no avail. The damage has been done and is
not rectified by removing SP2.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Brian

Lets get this straight . . .

You installed on upgrade to a Microsoft product with a product from
Microsoft
Said install rendered two other Microsoft items unusable.
Microsoft Tech advised to uninstall the upgrade.
The Microsoft advise is bad.

Is that the same Microsoft that tells users to turn on automatic updates and
they will take care the computers for them?

"With Automatic Updates, Windows can automatically check for
new security updates for your computer and install them for you."

" . . . install them for you." I wonder what part of those four words
Microsoft doesn't understand?

They only asked me to disable SP2 by using MSConfig. The problem still
existed so they closed the case.
What they failed to appreciate is that, if SP2 has caused some damage,
disabling it will not repair that damage.
