MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger - how to remove the damn thing

J

John Sommer

Can someone please specifically tell me a answer to this:

I need to dispose of Windows Messenger.
It continuously freezes in covos.

-I have removed WM from Add/Remove Windows components.

- I install MSN Messenger 5

- I open Outlook Express, and what happens, WM pops up.

- Deleting thw WM files causes errors in OE and in the Windows Sounds
controls.

I need a clean, easy way to purge WM from the system without causing a mess
so that MSN Messenger is the sole instant messaging app.

Kind regards, John.

There are two (2) different Messenger programs. The latest version
of "Windows Messenger" is 4.7. The latest version of "MSN Messenger"
is 6.0.

How are MSN Messenger and Windows® Messenger different?

Hello John,

Copy this without the single quotes and as one line and paste it into the
Start | Run... | Open: Dropdown list control;
'RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove'
and then click OK. I got this off a computer mag here, I did it and
yes!!!!... That damn Messenger never popped up again in any circumstance...

Hope this helps you too...

Regards,
Winux P
