SP 2 ??

Damn Testy - How long do you want to continue this thread to get
the "Last Word". My posting yesterday wasn't to start Argument #7
on how well SP2 works. I simply posted my own empirical data on
how well it's worked for me.

Just as Don Henley sings in "The Garden of Allah" - "There are no
facts, just data to be manipulated, I can get you any results you want".

My last word on the subject is you can prove most anything if you want
to with stats.

Can someone tell me if I really need to install it?

"Need" is a funny word. No, you don't literally "need" to install it, but I
strongly recommend that you do. It's primarily a security-oriented release,
with lots of new code and fixes in it that I think everyone should have (see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;811113&Product=windowsxpsp2).


In my experience, if you prepare for it properly (see
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=45), the chances of problems with it
are very slim.

Is the version that
can be downloaded from the Microsoft website , the same as the free SP2
CD
that Microsoft will provide?

That's irrelevant. It's purpose is not primarily to make your computer run
better, but to protect you, and in many cases what it protects against are
attacks that don't exist yet, but likely will in the future.
