After a fresh install of XP professional, my sound was crackly and
stuttering. My motherboard has a VIA chipset, so a friend reccomended I
install the "VIA latency patch". I installed this fine, and it fixed my sound
problems, but it caused another problem!
My display now has lines that flicker across it (when something changes on
the screen mainly, they don't appear if nothing on the screen changes). It's
hard to describe, but they're kind of like the lines that go across on VHS
videos.
My sound card is onboard (AC97), as is my graphics card which is an S3
ProSavage. I've updated the drivers for both of these and it hasn't helped. I
also updated the "VIA chipset drivers", which didn't change anything. If I
uninstall the patch, the lines disappear but my sound crackles and is choppy
again.
Does anyone have any ideas what's causing this?
Any help appreictaed,
Richard John
