Crackling Game Sound on new computer

Working on a new computer with WinXP...

ASUS P5N32-E SLI Mobo with SoundMax card attatched
2 6800GTS nVidia Cards

Unfortunately, my favorite games are playing with crackling sound
(Medieval2, C&C3, WoW).

My old Dell Win XP computer never had such sound problems, but I'm asking
here anyway just in case there's something I missed when installing Win XP or
if anyone knows any sound issues with WinXP and my new hardware.

Windows XP has been able to check for upgrades and my sound and video
drivers are up to date.

Oops... I meant 2 8600 GTS nVidia cards.

....and there are 3 fans inside, so I'm not likely to blame heat for the
sound crackles.

Have you tried different speakers?
Since the computer is new, contact the manufacturer for warranty
support.

I am not sure if memory can cause this, but do you have at least 1 GB
RAM, preferable 2 GB?
