Shared Printer Driver

I have Brother MFC-9700 printer connected w/parallel to HP desktop. It is
labelled a "shared" printer. When I try to add the printer for a "trusted"
computer on the wireless network via the control panel "add a printer"
routine, I find the printer without difficulty. When it tries to load the
driver, however, it claims that it can't find it on the MFC
installation/system dsk. Is there a trick to this step?

What operating systems are we talking about here... and are both (or all)
PCs on the network using the same O/S?

Both PCs are using Windows XP.

Yes, I did. WRT to your notation that the name of the printer could only
have 12 non-blank characters I changed the name on the computer where it is
attached to BrotherMFC. I proceeded to go to the networked computer and use
the add a printer routine. It found the printer using the prechanged name
but said it couldn't connect. When I changed the name to the new BrotherMFC,
it found it and warned me that I was loading a drive that might have viruses,
etc. When I said proceed, it said that the "server computer" did not have
the driver but allowed me to browse for a file with the driver. I loaded the
Brother CD which provided the driver for the computer on which it is
installed in my CD drive but the "Add a printer" routine said that the disk
did not contain any information about my printer hardware.

I'm not sure what you mean by "no machine is running XP x64 is my
assumption." Both PCs are using Windows XP.

What should I look for in drilling down into the directories? the "Add a
Printer" seems to be looking for an *.INF file but doesn't like the only one
that I found.

I just wanted to make sure you did not have 64bit XP.

The name of the driver in the inf on the CD has to match the name of the
driver shared on the XP machine.
