Manually Installing Printer Drivers Brother MFC-8500

M

Mike Rahilly

I use a wireless router to print to a Brother MFC-8500.
The computer I print from does not have a parallel port.
I need to install the parallel port drivers but obviously
cannot automatically detect the printer since I can't
plug it into the parallel port. How do I manually
install the drivers that came with the printer?

Go to http://solutions.brother.com/mfc8500/download/dl-
winxp-add.html. The driver at this site installs through
the add printer wizard:
To install the printer driver:
1. Click the start menu
2. Select run and type 'Control Printers' (without the
quotes)
3. Double click the Add Printer Wizard
4. Select 'Create new port' and Add your port information.
5. Select have disk and point it to the location of your
Brother inf.
6. Select the printer from the list
7. Choose your name (I generally leave the default name)
and whether this is your default printers
8. Choose your preferred sharing option
10. If desired, enter the location of the printer.
11. Choose whether to print a test page immediately after
install (I again leave the default)
9. The printer installs.

Please note that you cannot fax or scan through a network
connection.

Hope this helps,
