safe removal icon

after i installed a usb card in my notebook, the safe
removal icon does not appear in the notification area any
more. i tried the hide settings of the task bar and start
menu properties, but it is not that. does anyone know how
to have it back?

Unless I'm misunderstanding your question, you need to attach a USB device
(not just a USB card) before the icon will appear. When the USB device is
disconnected, the icon will disappear.

the icon does not appear whenever i plug a device either
to the card or to the usb port.
