Need to "Safely Remove Hardware", but the icon's gone missin'. . .

I've plugged in a new optical travel mouse to my new notebook computer. Both
are working just fine, but I want to unplug the mouse for now. The "Safely
Remove Hardware" icon is nowhere to be found in the tray of the notification
area anymore (even when I have it show hidden icons). It was there earlier.
<?> I'm just wondering why it disappeared, but more importantly, where do I
access the "Safely Remove Hardware" function now? I've gone into the Device
Manager but am not sure if that's the right area. I don't see anything
identifiable as the mouse under the USB port listings there.

Thanks again!

This is now a common problem but no solution available. Try this workaround :
.... Create a shortcut with target as
"RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll" (without quotes)

Use this shortcut to open SRH

The mouse isn't a "data storage device", don't give it another thought,
pull the plug.

I am helping a friend who has a laptop.

He uses the mouse pad and I like to use the mouse.

I find that the only thing that happens when I plug and unplug the mouse is
a notice saying the mousepad is disabled (when mouse is plugged in) and the
mousepad is re-enabled (when I unplug the mouse.)

This reinforces your statement above.
