I get the safe to remove icon for a device that I don't know what it is

Every time I boot I get in the notification area (I think that is what the
right side of the task bar is called) I get the safe to remove icon for
drive F.

Drive F shows in My Computer as a removable disk.

Showing properties/hardware I see the two hard disks I really have.
A floppy drive and the two DVD drives I do have.
Also there is a "Generic-Multi-Card USB Device that I don't know what it is.
If I use the above mentioned icon to safely remove the device it goes away
but returns at the next boot.

Guess it is not really a problem. Just an annoyance.

But I would like to get rid of it.

Do you know how to do that.

Thanks

From your description, it sounds like you have a Card Reader device.
Usually these are a USB connected peripheral that has slots for many
of the different types of Flash Memory devices (SDCard, Memory
Stick...).

Also many printers now have a built-in card slot on them. These types
of devices enumerate or show up in Device Mgr and "Safely Remove"
even though the slots don't have a physical card inserted into them.

About the only way I know of to inhibit the Safely Remove icon is to
use Windows 7 where the icon appears only when a physical memory
card is inserted into the reader.

I forgot I had that plugged into the back of the computer.
And I didn't know that it was called a card reader.

Thanks
