I just started 2002 PP and have a few general questions.

1) Assume I layout most of a page with graphics and text. I insert a picture
from file and the whole page is disrupted. Existing graphics are shrunk and
displaced. And there's a new text box inserted in the page along with the
new graphic. How do I stop that? I just want to insert a new graphic without
destrrying what I already did.

2) It appears PP does not have layers, correct? That would be handy!

3) re: Styles. Is it possible to have text styles? I'd like to save my
heading styles to retain fonts, sizes, colors, spacing etc. All I see is
something like page styles.

4) Animation. Per the HELP section, there should be some star icons when I
select a component. It appears I can select a component, click the Entrance
star, select an animation and that animation would be reflected on the
components entrance event. Where are those star icons? I don't see any
toolbar that has them.

5) This might be related to #4. I select animation for certain pages.
However, only the graphics and larger text boxes reflect the animation.
Smaller text boxes just pop in with no animation. What am I doing wrong?

thanks!

PPT does not have layers in the sense that you have a tool bar that displays
them like Photoshop
3) re: Styles. Is it possible to have text styles? I'd like to save my

Set type preference in your Title and Slide Masters (View > Master > Slide
Master). It opens up to you slide master, you'll need to insert a Title slide
master.
4) Animation. Per the HELP section, there should be some star icons when I
select a component. It appears I can select a component, click the Entrance
star, select an animation and that animation would be reflected on the
components entrance event. Where are those star icons? I don't see any

The stars appear next to the thumbnails in your Navigation pane at the left
of your screen.

I believe you are currently using Animation Schemes. Try this: Go to Slide
Show > Custom Animation to animate other objects in the slide

Tools|Autocorrect. Deselect the "automatic layout for inserted objects"
option.

Choose Tools, AutoCorrect Options
On the AutoFormat as you Type tab, remove the check next to "Automatic Layout
for Inserted Objects". If you want to control text sizes rather than letting
PPT adjust them for you, remove the checks from the next two boxes above that
as well.

That should fix it.

Correct. No layers in the sense that a drawing program can have individual
layers with multiple shapes on a single layer.
3) re: Styles. Is it possible to have text styles? I'd like to save my

Not directly out of the box, but we have a commercial addin called ShapeStyles
that adds styles to PPT. You can find a free demo here:

I'll leave the animation questions to people who have a clue. ;-)
