My printer seems to be printing the codes instead of the actual thing I am
trying to print. I have tried the suggestions on this site such as, turn it
off, unplug it, reinstall it..... any other ideas?

First, answer several questions:

1. What application are you trying to print from?

2. What is the "actual thing" you are trying to print?

3. Did you create the "actual thing" yourself, or get it from somewhere
else? If from somewhere else, where did you get it?

4. Exactly what do those "codes" look like? You don't have to type it all,
but a line or two would help.

5. What printer do you have?

6. Did the printer ever print correctly or has it always been like this?

7. Does it always print these "codes, " or just from some applications? For
example if you open Notepad, and create a one-line document and print it,
will that print correctly?

First, I would check to make sure the printer cable is properly seated
on both the printer and computer ends. If that doesn't help, uninstall
the printer driver software and then re-install it - even better, go to
the manufacturer's website and download the newest driver and install
it. Be sure to use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel to uninstall
the printer driver software.

Most, if not all printers have a built-in self test, or diagnostic mode
that can be run without using the connection to your computer - e.g.
standalone mode. Read the manual or go to the manufacturer's website to
figure out how to run the self test. If it works normally, the printer
is probably okay. If it doesn't work, it's definitely time to buy a new
printer.

Good Luck,
HJS
