I recently bought a new laptop with no parallel port so bought a usb to
parallel port cable to connect my printer. Installed the printer and driver
and printer is not working. I have checked and the printer is compatible with
windows xp. I have used the trouble shooter with no success. I am
completely stuck and don't know what else to do. Can anyone help? Laura

If your printer contains a parallel port connection, purchase a "parallel
cable" or
adapter from your local retail store or from the printer manufacturer. After
connecting the printer to your computer using a parallel cable, you will need
to change the properties of the printer to print to the "LPT" port. Microsoft
Windows users can change this setting through the "Printers" icon in the
control panel.
Start>Control Panel>Printers and Faxes>rightclick the printer and click
Properties.
Select Ports tab and select LPT1.

Can I get my USB printer to work on the parallel port?
