Outlook 2007

My new messages show in Unread Mail, but not in the Inbox until I click on
the Unread Mail folder. After that, even without clicking on the message,
they then become visible in the Inbox. There are no filters set on this view.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Cathy

What view are you using?
How is the data sorted and regrouped?
Are you in exchange cached mode?

It is likely that there either is a filter on the Inbox (despite what you
say), you are not sorting the Inbox by the Received column, or you are not
using the Messages View. The Unread Mail folder is not a real folder and
shows you the unread messages from the other folders that are covered by the
search criteria. The Unread Mail folder lists the name of the real
folder(s) where the messages reside.

I hear what you're saying, but there are no filters and items are sorted by
date received. It's an intermittent problem. Sometimes new ones are
immediately viewable in the Inbox and sometimes I have to click on Unread
before they appear. What about clicking on the Unread Mail icon would make
them suddenly be visible in the Inbox when they weren't before?
Thanks.

I can't think of anything off-hand that would cause a POP account to behave
that way. If, instead of opening the Unread Mail folder, you simply wait a
little while, do the messages appear in the Inbox then? Have you tried
starting Outlook once with the /cleanviews command switch just to be sure?

Yes. If I wait awhile, they do appear. I'm also having problems with Word
crashing when I try to open a Word attachment to a message. If I save it
first, it opens fine. I'll try the cleanviews switch. MSO 2007 bugs maybe? I
did an Office Diagnostics and MSO repair.

I can't say if it's a bug or just something ill-set on your PC. I myself
have not had the problem.

Well, this is my second go at it. The HD on my brand new Dell laptop crashed
after five days. It was doing the same thing on the first installation
(Unread Mail not always appearing immediately in the Inbox). I'm a consultant
and this is the first time I've worked with MSO 2007, but I didn't notice
anything during setup that would cause it. It seems to be fine this morning.
Oh, well ...
Thanks,
Cathy
