Steve:
I have discovered some more questions in addition to the ones posted in last
post (see below).
I've had another look and I see the requisite key and value does NOT exist
for all the file types I want to view as thumbnails---including not for both
kinds of .jpgs/.jpegs. Some have a folder called PersistentHandler either in
addition to or in place of the ShellEx folder. It is as follows:
..JPEG---as specified in KB article---the {string} is a separate folder in
ShellEx
..JPG---PersistentHandler folder with different value data from article;
{string} is in right-hand pane under Data but not in a separate folder in
ShellEx
..TIF---Same as .JPG
..TIFF---PersistentHandler AND ShellEx with correct {string} folder in it
..PSD---PersistentHandler AND ShellEx with correct {string} folder in it AND
folder called ShellNew
Should I delete the non-ShellEx folders as well as adding the ShellEx ones?
I'm afraid to delete from the registry. Have no registry experience.
In addition to the new jpg problem (caused, I assume, by installation of a
new image program which brazenly associated jpegs to itself without
asking...) I have been having gross inconsistencies with tif/tiff thumbnails
in Windows Explorer for a very long time (inconsistently black/partially
black/icon/image---sometimes all within the same folder) and no one has had
any solutions. the posts usually got no response. Perhaps this will
straighten that out to......
Thank you so much for your help! Hope to hear from you soon...

Which attached file?
How do you merge a file?
How do I get to the right place in my Registry?
Save it to where?
Sorry for not understanding...:-(....
