no sound suddenly

My computer has worked fine for 2 years, and suddenly I
have no sound in any program including the basic system
sounds. I exhausted the trouble shooter, and everything
checks out. Yes, the speakers are plugged in properly.
I have downloaded all reccomended updates.
Please help!

Were you able to test your speakers by plugging them into another source?
(Sometimes it's possible to plug them into the headphone output on the front
of the CD drive or a portable CD player or radio).
