no audio

Recently, my sound, (music, movie audio) went away. System sounds still work
through stereo speakers. Re-installed device drivers (realtekAC'97). Nothing
is muted, system says everything is AOK. Like I said, this was pretty much
all of a sudden. Worked one day, not the next. Not working in either Windows
Media Player or Quick Time/iTunes. Any ideas?

1. Download the Latest Updates from the manufacturer's website.
2. Uninstall the old drivers. Restart your PC and then install the newer one.
3. If that doesn't help then try reinstalling DirectX.

and for the future correspondence, what you mean by System Sound? Is it the
default beeps or Windows Start and Exit sounds etc?

Hope this help, let us know!

Thanks. I can re-install the audio drivers, as you suggested, but I don't
know how or where to re-install "Direct X". I'll figure it out.
I thought "system sounds" was the correct description. Yes, I mean the
chimes, beeps, etc. I was checking to see if these sounds come through the
stereo speakers. They do, although I no longer am hearing the little
"flourish" that Windows plays when you turn on or turn off the system.

Try system restore to the day it was working .

Thanks. I hadn't used system restore since way back when I had an ME system.
With that computer, system restore was a nightmare. But this worked
perfectly, & I also set today as a new restore point.
Thanks again.

Thanks for coming back ; if you installed any programs since system
restore , you might have to reinstall .
