Still no sound

I checked the bios and made sure the on-board audio was disabled. Then
removed and re-installed the Yamaha drivers for the pci sound card. When I
rebooted there was no bootup sound, so I figured I was back where I
started.

I did notice I had a volume control in my task bar, which was encouraging.
I checked the device manager and there were 'no yellow question marks'.
According to it everything was working fine.

Problem.. Still no sound. I unplugged the speakers and plugged in my
stereo headphones. Still nothing.

This was a working sound card when I took it from the other can and I
treated it with care, both removing and reinstalling into the new
motherboard.

I simply can't figure why everything shows to be working fine, yet 'no
sound'!

I can't help but wonder if I'd been better off doing a clean install of XP
rather than upgrading 98SE. I'm not a happy camper, right about now.. :(

So this was an upgrade? Did you change anything else as far as hardware?

What Service Pack are you at?

Do not install supplemental hardware until all updates are installed.

Just throwing out some ideas.

Updated System drivers?

Anything "muted"?

You moved this card from one machine to another?

If you move it back - does it still function in the old machine?

Things *do* just 'fry' on occassion. :-(
