Networking speed

I have just started to use XP Pro, since any new machine
I purchase has it installed.

But our network is Novell 4.2. It takes ages to run
throught the Novell loggin script, and once connected,
any attempt to access a network drive takes ages to come
up.

All my other machines bring up the drive in a couple of
seconds (Win98SE).

Is there some setting I am missing with XP?
