Network slow after Domain join

Hello,

We are currently setting up an AD and im on my way to join our machines to
the AD. Today we have a netware e-Dir so all of our laptops/desktops has
novell components installed on them so that they can authenticate with NW.

The problem is that when I join a machine to our new AD it then takes 10 min
for the computer to start the network when booting up. I wait 2-3 min and it
says "Windows is starting up..." then when the novell "ctr+alt+del"-box comes
up and I press ctrl+alt+del it takes another 5-7 mins before the actual
login-box is shown. Meanwhile If i try to ping the machine I do not get any
replies. I start getting replies when the login box is shown.


If i setup a fresh install of WinXP sp2 on a box and set the exact same
Ip/dns settings I have no problem at all.

I've turend on userevn-debug loggin but can't find any specific error there.

Can someone please point me in some direction where I should look. I'm
getting very frustated with this problem now. :(....

Hello,

Thank you for your reply!

I've checked, double-checked and tripple checked dns settings and they are
correct, I've also tried all possible kind of DNS suffix settings.


What I find very strange is that the network does not seem to be started
until the login-prompt appears, it shouldnt take10 min to start the network.

If i start the computer without network card it still takes 10 min for
login-prompt to appear.

Tried safe mode with networking but still the exact same problem. 10 min time
until you get to login-prompt.

I've also tried to recreate the SID using sysinternals newsid but still same
problem.



Also tried to reset security settings using the guide @
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313222 but still the same problem.

Forgot to mention:

I also tried Safe Mode without networking and still 10min waiting time
before login prompt!

Firstly, it is unusual to join an AD domain with Netware components installed.

If this is the Microsoft Netwarel Client then it shoudl be Ok, if it's the
Novell proprietary Client then I would expect there to be problems!

Second, check for faulty powersave options on the LAN card. These are
responsible for a whole gamut of network issues.

powersave option.

If I disable netlogn the machine boots fast..

If i uninstall "client for microsoft network" it also boots fast.. anyone
has any good tips/ideas on how to troubleshoot netlogon... I've tried
uninstalling and reinstalling it but when It's reinstalled it still is 10
mins startup time.

5703. We too are having the exact same problem. Did you manage to find a
solution? I notice that this only seems to affect our IBM workstations that
had their OS preinstalled. Our other workstations are working smoothly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

MS-support did help us with our problem after a while. The problem we had
was that we where missing 4 reg-values for the local system account hive and
one other hive. The keys that was missing was:
MUILanguagePending under HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Control Panel\Desktop
MUILanguagePending under HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Control Panel\Desktop
and
MultiUILanguageID under HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Control Panel\Desktop
MultiUILanguageID under HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Control Panel\Desktop

Theese String-keys has to be the same as the corresponding keys under
"HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Control Panel\Desktop\"

Wow, thanks!

I just happened to open a case with Microsoft too. Everything seems to be
working now. No more waiting 10minutes to log into the domain.

Yes, it worked on the test box. I'm still gettting error 5703 in the netlogon
log but it's no longer timing out for 10 minutes. We can at least start
adding the old ibm workstations to the domain.

OK - have looked for those values in the registry and do not have them on our
machines. Are these the only values suggested by Microsoft which need fixed?

Firstly, it is unusual to join an AD domain with Netware components installed.

If this is the Microsoft Netwarel Client then it shoudl be Ok, if it's the
Novell proprietary Client then I would expect there to be problems!

Second, check for faulty powersave options on the LAN card. These are
responsible for a whole gamut of network issues.

I also tried Safe Mode without networking and still 10min waiting time
before login prompt!

We had a similar problem on our network. We also have the same error messages
in our netlogon debug file, so I'm not sure that's the cause. We found that
our problem was related to the Roxio services installed with BlackBerry
Desktop Manager 4.6 (possibly earlier versions, but 4.6 is what we were
using). After disabling the services below, clients were back to a
respectable login period again.
Services installed by BDM affecting usage:
LiveShare P2P Service
Roxio Hard Drive Watcher 9
Roxio UPnP Renderer 9
Roxio UPnP Server 9
RoxMediaDB9

Do you have BDM installed? Are these services running? If so, try disabling
them and see what happens.

log but it's no longer timing out for 10 minutes. We can at least start
adding the old ibm workstations to the domain.

Hello,

MS-support did help us with our problem after a while. The problem we had
was that we where missing 4 reg-values for the local system account hive and
one other hive. The keys that was missing was:
MUILanguagePending under HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Control Panel\Desktop
MUILanguagePending under HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Control Panel\Desktop
and
MultiUILanguageID under HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Control Panel\Desktop
MultiUILanguageID under HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Control Panel\Desktop

Theese String-keys has to be the same as the corresponding keys under
"HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Control Panel\Desktop\"

5703. We too are having the exact same problem. Did you manage to find a
solution? I notice that this only seems to affect our IBM workstations that
had their OS preinstalled. Our other workstations are working smoothly.

If i uninstall "client for microsoft network" it also boots fast.. anyone
has any good tips/ideas on how to troubleshoot netlogon... I've tried
uninstalling and reinstalling it but when It's reinstalled it still is 10
mins startup time.
