Move messages but keep them unread.

Vista Ultimate 64 bit; Office 2007 Ultimate.

When I move messages from the spam folder to the inbox those messages have
not yet been read so I want them to continue to be marked as unread when they
appear in the inbox. Is there a way to do this?

Try right clicking o the message and picking "Mark as unread" This reverses
the read mail process

No. The idea is for them not to be marked as 'read' in the first place.

Two solutions:

a) Turn off the reading pane in the spam folder.
b) Chane the reading pane options so that it doesn't mark messages as read.

I'd go with A since it only involves one folder as opposed to functionality
in the entire system. You'd probably want to turn on the Auto-Preview under
view, as well.

Thanks for trying to help but reading pane is already off & Auto-Preview is on.

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who thought these were the best
settings to use.

If I move from item to item within the spam folder they do not get marked as
'read'. That only happens when I move them to another folder.

I can't actually repro this in 2k7. How are you moving the messages? Drag
and drop?

If I drag the message from the Junk E-mail folder to the Inbox, it stays
unread.

Interesting.

I highlight all the items I want to move and then click on the 'move to
folder' icon (between printer icon and delete icon just to the right of 'new'
on my toolbar) and then select 'inbox'.

They stay unread doing it that way on my system as well, so, lets try a
couple things.

Take a couple of messages, move them to a different folder (not Junk
E-mail), mark them as unread and then try moving them to your inbox. Do
they stay unread?

Try drag and drop from Junk E-Mail to the Inbox, do they stay unread?

If you go to Tools - Trust Center, do you have any add-ins installed?
