Unread messages invisible

I am using Outlook 2007 connecting to Exchange 2003.
I have added a mailbox from another user and the Inbox of the user indicates
that there are 20 unread messages. However when I click the Inbox there are
no unread messages, just the read messages. This only happens with this
particular user's mailbox. Any other one is fine - unread messages come up
when clicking Inbox.
Anyone any ideas?

Do you know if the items in the shared inbox are marked private?
