modem issue

I am trying to install a 3com Courier v.everything modem
on my Windows 2000 server. The os will not automatically
detect the modem like the manufacturer says it should.
It will allow me to install the driver, but it will not
query the modem - it gives me an error that says, "the
modem failed to respond." The modem is listed properly
in Device Manager and the Phone & Modem applet in control
panel. help!

Did you put in the drivers for it for W2K?

Also, the modem has to be on when you start Windows 2000 (or XP) any
version. See this article:
