Win2000Pro modem driver problem

I installed Win 2000 Pro on a Gateway PII , 40GB hard drive computer that
had Win 98SE and Telepath w/ X2
data/fax/voice capable modem driver installed. (Device Manager
showed--Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audio PCI
64V/ Sound Blaster Audio PCI 64V Legacy Device/Wave Device for Voice Modem)
With Win98SE I used EzVoice 2.2 for answering the phone(I'm disabled).
After formatting the hard drive
with Data Life Guard 11, and using the 4 floppies to load Win 2000 setup
files,
Win2000 Pro loaded fine, but also loaded a 3Com modem driver that has no
voice/waveable drivers.
I went to Device Manager and removed the 3Com modem and tried to load the
Telepath w/X2 modem
driver from the OEM floppy without success. Win 2000 Pro would not recognize
the modem setup file.
I suspect that driver is only good for 95/98. Can I get a driver that will
restore the modem voice capability in
Win 2000Pro, and if not, can I replace the sound card with one that will
solve my problem.?
Am I dealing with a chipset/board problem that is bigger that I can handle?
Thank you for any help.

IIRC the "Telepath" is a "Gateway branded" modem. I don't want to sound
discouraging, but switching that box to a "working" NT based operating
system was/is not probably going to be a easy feat. You are likely in
for a lot of grief before you get all the capabilities back that you had
with the Win98 setup. I would suggest restoring the original setup back
to working computer, and then assess the cost of converting it to NT vs
buying a working box.

Thanks. I have come to the same conclusion after researching possible sound
card/modems. They all call for a
computer beyond what I can make of this one. Finally, it comes down to.."if
it ain't broke, don't fix it". So I'll go back to 98SE and either donate it
and buy an XP based machine or live with what I've got. Thanks
