How do I reinstall McAfee Security Center?
I want to reinstall mine because it has been acting up.

I am using Windows Vista.
Any help?
Thank you.

Disable it first.
See if there is an uninstaller with it in Start> Programs.

Start>Programs>Control Panel>Programs and Features>Uninstall a Program.
Reinstall it from the CD(Media) that it came on.

Well. McAfee runs both on XP and Vista.
I didn't think it would make much of a difference.

The program was preinstalled on my PC.

Rather than go with McAfee, try using the free versions of Avast or AVG. In
conjunction with the Windows firewall, Windows Defender, and Malwarebytes,
you will find yourself well protected, and your computer may be a little
faster too..

My recommendation is that you do not reinstall it, but instead uninstall and
replace it. I, and many others here, consider McAfee to be the second worst
(only Norton is worse) security software available.

Ken,

While many of us agree on Norton, I think we may have to reevaluate the
2009 version. From what I've been reading, Symantec may have finally
got it together. Could be too little too late in the day of so many
good free programs though.

I've heard some similar things, but I won't believe it until I see it. Even
if it's better than it's been, the question remains as to whether it's as
good as the freeware alternatives.

And to me, if they have a long history of poor software, I would stay away
from. I wouldn't trust them to continue to have a decent product, and I
wouldn't want to deal with such a company.

McAfee doesn't run on any XP system with which I'm familiar.

In the same respect, users shouldn't judge a company that may be trying
to reverse their bad press, especially without first hand experience.
Never know, maybe they'll turn it around!

I am just rewording my comments about Symantec to state, "in the past...".

It does.

Retail and Enterprise McAfee anti virus.

I'm familiar with the 17 computers here in our office, the four I have at
home, and two at my co-worker's house. None are running McAfee.

Perhaps I should have said: "McAfee isn't running on any XP system..."

My apologies for creating a misunderstanding.

And how does that preclude that the product would be listed in the
Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel?

Or were you addressing how to reinstall it? Well, it would be part of
the bundleware crap included in the image restore CD included with your
computer. To get it back means having to overwrite the partition with
the OS with the original image which means you lose everything in that
partition.

Besides, if it came pre-installed, it is highly likely to be a trial
version which expires after some date. So even if you did manage to
reinstall that trial version, it's going to expire, anyway.

You'll have to ask whomever built or sold the computer with the
pre-installed software to find out how to reinstall it. The manual
might tell you how to do that, too.

Have you checked with your ISP to see if they provide their customers
with a free copy of a commercialware security package? My ISP (Comcast)
gives its customers the McAfee Security Suite for free (as long as they
remain Comcast customers). I tried it for awhile. Was better than
Norton. Still got in my way. Got rid of it and went with freeware
security programs.

Hi Lou,

It depends on how you installed McAfee Security Center in the first
place.

First you need to go to Programs and uninstall McAfee Security Center
and all its programs, before its Security Center, itself can be removed /
uninstalled. Reboot the computer.

Then however you installed McAfee, reinstall McAfee again.
